2008 King of Cornhole

When: January 23-24, 2009

Where: Las Vegas, Nevada

What: 3rd ACO U.S. Nationals

Space is limited for a tournament ticket to compete in the best of three qualifier bracket challenge Friday, January 23, 2009. Players will be playing to win one of the last few spots to compete in the "King of Cornhole" tournament scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2009.

Early bird registration from July 9 to August 31, 2008 is only $20.00 per player to reserve your qualifier ticket. Full details of qualifier tournament will come later this year in November, 2008.

This singles qualifier is for players that think they are good or want to see how good they are. You are fighting for the chance to make the field of 64 to compete for the best cornhole player in the world. Again the space is limited so even if you aren't sure you're coming to Vegas or you think you are already going to be one of the pre-qualified players you may want to still invest in reserving a spot at this highly discounted rate of $20.00 per player.

On September 1, 2008 price of ticket jumps to $50.00 per player for ACO Members and $75.00 per player for Non ACO Members November 1, 2008 price of tickete jumps to $100.00 per player for ACO Members and $125.00 per player for Non ACO Members.

2008 World Cornhole Championship

Last years participants battled for a $5000.00 purse - Matt Guy walked away with $3000.00 for first place and Steve Vanderver claimed $1000.00 for second. We hope to make the purse even bigger for this years event. It doesn't matter how big the purse is if you aren't one of the best 16 players in the country accornding to the ACO CornyForty you will not be competing for the BIG MONEY!

Maize Kraze Results

With more than 70 people on hand for the second major Cornhole tournament of the year, Maize Kraze was a huge success with many thanks going out to all the players, friends and family that attended. ACO Georgia is extremely appreciative of the huge support and gatherings that take place for these major tournaments!

OPEN DOUBLES

It was clear that open doubles has been extremely popular here in the Atlanta area and beyond. The Open Doubles tournament included local teams and teams from as far away as Newnan, Buford, Warner Robbins & Chattanooga!

The results of the Open Doubles Tournament were:

1st: Team Realtree (Daryl Adams/Matt Underwood)
2nd: Black & Blue (Doug Gresham/Mr. Bubba)
3rd: JWG (Chris Kelley/Paul Wilson)
4th: Possum Creek (Terry Hampton/Mrs.Terry Hampton)

What is very surprising is that the top 3 teams are from Newnan, Ga, thus making Newnan a breeding ground for some of the top cornholers in the state.

In addition to these four, look out for the following teams that will make noise at future tournaments: Cornstars, Puddin Pounders, HotShotz, Cornholios, Club Eves, Butter & the Yellow Dogs.

TOP GUN SINGLES

The Top Gun (Singles Champ) crown goes to Daryl Adams who, unlike coasting through the Cornhole de Mayo event, faced several tough challenges on his way to his 2nd straight Top Gun Championship. Daryl has retained the title "Cornhole King of Georgia".

The results of the Top Gun Singles were:

1st: Daryl Adams (Newnan)
2nd: Steve Black (Buford)
3rd: Matt Hutto (Kennesaw)
4th: Chris Kelley (Newnan)

The second place winner was Steve Black, who coasted through the tournament and gave Daryl a very tough match in the championship. There will be no doubt that Steve will be back in the same place for future events.

The third place winner Matt Hutto is a newcomer to the ACO Georgia circuit but his first Top Gun tournament was a success. There is no question that Matt's finish of third place in his first tournament will draw notice from other players for future tournaments.

I hope that many of the players from the Top Gun Singles tournament will be participating at the next major Cornhole Tournament in late November, early December - the Turkeyhole Classic.

Top Flight Singles players are on their game for the next Cornhole Major of the Year -
Maize Kraze - July 19, 2008 - to take aim at the top finishers of Cornhole de Mayo!

Congrats to all the players and winners as Maize Kraze 2008 was a huge success!

Special thanks to Wild Wing Cafe (Marietta) for the accomodations and what appears to be a future partnership for this event in years to come!

Best Team in Georgia

Preceding the Top Gun Singles Tournament was the first ever Open Doubles competition. Fighting through damp bags and wet boards, there were more than 50 people in attendance to witness three strong hours of throwing. All players enjoyed a lot of throwing and cold drinks.

The champions of the Open Doubles tournament was a team called Droppin the Hammer...brothers Shane and Daryl Adams. They were tough to stop all day as they defeated JWG (Chris Kelley & Paul Wilson) in the Championship Game. Both teams reside in the highly competitive Newnan, GA area and are amongst the two best teams in the state of Georgia.

The third place winner was the Wannabees from Newnan, GA. Gene Ryals and Matt Underwood paired up to form a uniquely powerful team. They upset one of the best teams in the state in HotShotz to place in their first tournament.

Keep on practicing as we are gearing up for Maize Kraze on July 19th. Location will be determined.

2007 King of Cornhole

It's official Matt Guy is our first back to back Nationals champion. The question still looms, when will any American Cornholer be able to take the CROWN away from Matt Guy? He was hands down the best player in the world again as 63 players qualified to compete against Matt for the ACO Nationals "King of Cornhole" 2007. Randy Atha was the runner up who played a very good game on Saturday but just didn't have enough ammunition to pull the upset.
Matt was dominating and for his efforts took home the CROWN, $1000 Cash, and the chance to compete in all ACO Pro events in 2008.

Congratulations to Matt Guy and a big thank you to all the players that came out to compete this year at the ACO US Nationals "King of Cornhole" event.

See you next year in Vegas -- bigger and better than ever!
